Who cares if it’s written by AI? We should allow meritocracy to prevail

I have started to see “AI Manifesto’s” on people’s websites stating that “no content was created by AI” (an example).

Is ‘written by human’ any better?

Why?

Medium says it wants “…stories written by people about their experiences and insights.” but whole personas can be created by AI and then articles can be written by them — experiences, insights and all!

Surely if something is a great read, is doing everything it is intended to do and it has served it’s purpose then it doesn’t matter if it was written by AI, a lowly human or a purple unicorn?

Created by ChatGPT, prompted by author.

Is the issue that AI is writing amazing content?

I don’t think that this is problem right now.

I would say it’s unverisally accepted that AI writing is average at best and fairly easy to spot.

I would even go further and say that we are currently in the ‘uncanny valley’ of AI writing where we occasionally even experience an odd unpleasent feeling when we realize it’s not written by a human.

This happens when it’s nearly human, but not quite.

So, the problem is not that AI is competing with our best writers.
