How to Fix Your Life in 4 Steps — inspired by Jordan Peterson

Whether you love him or hate him, Jordan Peterson undoubtedly has wisdom to share.

I randomly stumbled across this 4-step process and immediately recognized the framework as being similar to the ‘imperfect, iterative action’ steps that I use with clients.

What you’ll find, is that as you go from big life domains and zoom in, you’ll be able to use this 4 step process at each stage. Regardless of the size of the problem, the goal is to get to a point where you have identified the specific next step that you can take today to get you started.

To show you how neat and powerful it is, I’ve also included an example after describing the 4 steps below, so without further ado...

Let’s crack open the box. Image by ChatGPT, prompted by author.

Step 1 — Figure out what’s wrong

This is where you brainstorm anything and everything that you think may be the problem. Start wide and branch out into any related domains.

The more you can get out during this phase, you more chance you’ll have to identify the real problem.

This might be an epic solo journal session or a deep probing conversation with a coach — both have their merits.

Step 2 — Remove the irrelevant
